SOUTH SUDAN
INTEGRATION OF GENDER IN DISASTER MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT

UNIDOR

The objective of the project is to address gender imbalances, raise women’s voices, and address the main drivers of gender inequality. This encompasses thematic areas such as Sustainable Livelihoods and Development, Recognising Equal Rights, and Conflict Resolution.

EMPOWER WOMEN TO SHARE AND EXPRESS THEMSELVES TO INCREASE DEVELOPMENT

YCGNI

YCGNI utilises community-based engagement as a tool to collaborate with communities in order to identify and act on areas where intervention is required. YCGNI seeks to encourage and mobilise women to share ideas and practices for decolonial leadership development, health advocacy, crafts, and sustainable agriculture.

TANZANIA
GENDER MAINSTREAMING IN CLIMATE CHANGE STRATEGIES

GCCCT

GCCTC seeks to raise awareness about the impact of gender and climate change, with a focus on resolving threats to the livelihoods of women and children in marginalised communities. We are making strides to institutionalise gender and climate change adaptation in collaboration with strategic partners.

Mwanasikana Wanhasi is a Shona phrase for “The Girl Child of Today”. The organisation empowers women to engage meaningfully in political processes by building awareness, investing in education and capacity building, establishing supportive networks, and transforming political culture.

This project breaks cycles of disenfranchisement and vulnerability. Under our Self-Actualisation Model of Empowerment (SAME), FIDA-U provides financial literacy and legal assistance to women, promotes financial independence, and reduces vulnerability to exploitation and violence.

Echoes of Humanity

Rural community development will remain a challenge unless women are at the forefront of economic opportunities. This project has sought to empower women through the community construction of a solar power station and supporting electric trike business opportunities.

UTILISATION OF MATERNAL HEALTHCARE DURING COVID-19 & DISASTERS

University of Dhaka, Individual Researchers 

Covid-19 had devastating impacts on health services around the world. This study examined the resiliency of maternal healthcare services (MCS) in Bangladesh and sought to identify effective strategies for ensuring adequate access to MCS during future pandemics and disasters.

INFUSING GENDER CONSCIOUSNESS IN DISASTER PEDAGOGIES

JTSDS

This project infuses gender consciousness in disaster pedagogies, education and research.

Activities have included strengthening gender perspectives in disaster education through producing robust guidelines to integrate gender consciousness into disaster management curriculums.

ENHANCING PUBLIC SECTOR ACCOUNTABILITY & TRANSPARENCY FOR GENDER INCLUSION IN RESPONSE TO DISASTERS AND COVID-19

Systemic governance failures in the Covid-19 pandemic response have been widely reported. This project analysed the national & local disaster risk reduction landscape and gathered local governance & NGO perspectives on how resilience can be strengthened by better integrating gender considerations in policies and practices.

 The project aims to infuse gender consciousness in disaster pedagogies, education, and research in the South Asian region through a robust training module for enabling top-tier universities from Bangladesh to revisit their curriculums taking into account regional learnings and experiences on Disaster Management.

Women with disabilities often face double discrimination because of the intersection of multiple marginalised identities, particularly gender and disability. This project sought to assess the role of local government in reducing disparities and creating a resilient environment for women with disabilities.

ECOSYSTEMS IN DISASTER RISK MANAGEMENT

Colectiva Feminista

The depth of water access inequality became clear during the Covid-19 pandemic. This affects women directly, as traditional roles and gender stereotypes continue to overburden women with water-related domestic and caregiving tasks. This project contributed to strengthening local women actors in the right to water and the protection of ecosystems.

AGAPES HIDRICOS PROJECT: WATERWAYS AND LIVES ON THE JOURNEY

 Chile is experiencing water shortages with multidimensional causes. This project has sought to make visible the structural and multidimensional inequality of the water crisis in Chile and to recognise the actions being developed "from the bottom up" concerning water protection as a fundamental right.

AUTONOMY IN LAND AND HABITAT MANAGEMEN

Noddo ONG

After La Planada Nature Reserve was ceded to the indigenous Awá people, this project contributed to the strengthening and sustainability of their livelihoods through the analysis of the impact of climate change and the dynamics of intersectionality.

Gender is a determining factor in the access, control, and management of natural resources. This project aimed to incorporate a gender perspective in local climate planning for three regions in Argentina – specifically for actions and public policies related to climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Despite advances in disaster risk reduction management in Chile, local governments and organised communities need more support and encouragement from national entities to integrate it effectively. This project promoted gender equality and the inclusion of diverse populations in local disaster risk management.

IMA & MAMA

Gender-based violence, accentuated by ethnic-racial discrimination, is a key challenge in the struggle for the rights of the people in the Amazonian region. This project has sought to promote skills for defending women and women’s rights in the management of public policies in the Amazon.

Food, agriculture, and traditional medicine are the basis of the way of life in the communities and territories in Pernambuco. This project promoted the exchange of traditional knowledge on food and medicine to address gender and territorial inequalities that mainly affect Black and Indigenous populations in Pernambuco.
