Project:

Infusing Gender Consciousness in Disaster Pedagogies: Systematic Gender Audit & Review towards Developing Intersectional Disaster Management (DM) Curriculum

Implementing organisation :

Jamsetji Tata School of Disaster Studies (JTSDS), Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai

This initiative aims at reflecting on the inclusion of gender consciousness in disaster pedagogies, education and research. The academic team is developing a detailed guideline to integrate gender consciousness into disaster management curriculum, after conducting a gender audit and a systematic review of the existing DM curriculum to strengthen gender perspectives in disaster education. The project facilitated regional and national level workshops to highlight the importance and need for gender inclusive DRR and resilience building efforts. The end goal is to enable the dissemination of practical field experiences of women, girl children & gender minorities in disaster contexts through discussions at regional and national workshops and to create a gender-aware, intersectional disaster management curriculum that will set a precedent programme in India.
