About the event

This interactive panel will bring together 6 of our GRRIPP commissioned projects from Brazil, Chile, Dominican Republic, India and Zimbabwe to discuss “Gender, care and livelihoods in times of crisis”. Our guests are women-led unions, grassroots organisations and NGOs defending the rights of women informal workers, care givers, and Afro-descendant communities who struggle to survive in times of crisis. They will provide insights into how they resist against every day risks and disasters, and the strategies they have implemented to produce social change. How do crises and disasters disrupt reproductive work? And how do communities organise and resist in the face of those extreme events to sustain their livelihoods? Come to learn from and exchange with our amazing speakers!

The seminar will take place in Lecture Theatre G13, Torrington Place (1-19) which is located on the ground floor with disability access,  and will begin at 17:30 to 19:00 followed by a reception with drinks and canapes. Please see below the session schedule:

About GRRIPP

GRRIPP is a 4-year global collaboration and knowledge-exchange project, implemented by seven universities based in Bangladesh, Peru, South Africa, and the UK. GRRIPP stands for ‘Gender Responsive Resilience and Intersectionality in Policy and Practice (GRRIPP) - Networking Plus Partnering for Resilience’ and is funded by UKRI’s Global Challenges Research Fund.

Since 2019, GRRIPP has commissioned more than 20 research and social change projects across Latin America and the Caribbean, South Asia, and Southern Africa. Regional GRRIPP teams and project partners are undertaking important work in re-imagining practices of care, human relationships with the environment, the importance of indigenous knowledge, curriculum reform and much more. GRRIPP researchers around the world have also produced valuable resources for future generations of researchers and activists, including: an expansive GRRIPP Latin America and the Caribbean repository of manuals and reports, a GRRIPP reference guide to alternative references on gender, intersectionality and resilience, and a magazine exploring feminism and city spaces. To access these resources and learn more about the projects, visit: www.grripp.net.
